This game enables beginners to understand the movement of the knight which has the most difficult pattern of movement of the all chess pieces. This is a capture game. Each side takes turns to capture as many pawns (apples) as possible. The winner is the person who captures all the opponent’s pawns or their knight.
The pawns cannot move or capture but still retain the attacking potential. The knights must not place themselves in harm’s way from a pawn or the other knight. In the diagram below, the black knight is prevented from capturing the pawn at h3 which is protected by the white knight. Hence Black must move the knight away and, because of the wasted tempos, will almost inevitably lose.
