Summer School on Teaching Chess

ChessPlus is proud to be involved in the first international post-graduate course on school chess. “Chess in Primary Education“ is a summer school for teachers and for teacher trainers. It will be hosted by the University of Girona in Spain on 2-6 July 2018. It is part of the CHAMPS Erasmus plus project that was launched during the recent London Chess Conference. Materials and methods developed under the lead of ChessPlus form a significant part of the course. John Foley and Stefan Löffler from ChessPlus will teach alongside Professors Fernand Gobet, Barry Hymer, Jorge Nuno Silva and lecturers from the University Girona.

A course folder and project website are underway. The course is suitable for teachers and teacher trainers with at least two years chess teaching experience. Summer school attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance and can additionally get 3 ECTS if they write a report based upon Action Research in their classroom.

The course fee of €300 includes course materials and refreshments. Full waivers are available for ten applicants from low-income countries covered under ErasmusPlus. Applicants must send a CV and a Letter stating your motivating in attending. Those who want to apply for a fee waiver must supply a proof of current income. Applications close on 15 March 2018.

Girona is known for its beautiful old town, excellent restaurants, airport and former mayor Carles Puigdemont. Girona is half an hour drive from the Costa Brava and an hour to the North of Barcelona. Accomodation in a modern student house with personal bathroom, kitchenette. Accommodation costs €27 single and €19 double per person per night.
