Magna Carta

Magna Carta involves the king v the knights. This game is about anticipation – looking ahead to where the knights will move.

Starting Position

The knights win by giving check (i.e. attacking the king). If the king survives for ten moves, Black wins. Let us take a look at a possible game with Black to play their fourth move.
Black to play

In the above diagram, Black cannot avoid check next move.
*The king cannot move to the red squares because they are currently under attack.
*The king cannot move to the yellow squares because it will be checked by the knight marked in yellow.
*The king cannot move to the green squares because it will be checked by the knight marked in green.
Since it has been within six moves, White wins.

Variations:
*Reduce the move limit according to the relative strength of the players. With a stronger knight player, the king wins if it survives six moves.

*Three players, one taking each piece, take turns to move. The knights need to co-operate.
