Mindsets – Barry Hymer

Opening presentation by Barry Hymer on the concept of Mindsets in cognitive psychology, originally developed by Carol Dweck.  Progress depends upon mindsets rather than ability. There are two types of mindset – fixed and growth.  Expressing it very simply, someone with a fixed mindset is more concerned about looking intelligent.  Someone with a growth mindset is prepared to work hard to get better.  Educationists encourage the growth mindset.  The implication for playing games is to discourage the pursuit of easy wins and encourage learning from mistakes.
